Celebrating Lughnasa: Breads ‘Round the World

At this months Culture Club, we invited everyone to Join us to share, swap and eat breads from around the world in this celebration of the traditional harvest season.

We tried out a swap and trade system – using tokens, not money, to buy bread. Bread-makers received tokens in exchange for the bread they brought, and anyone else could simply come taste bread any bread you liked. For take-aways, people could buy tokens to take some of their favourite breads home.

We were so excited to see what different breads people would bring and we wanted to encourage all types of bread – Stuffed Bao, Foccacia, Pretzels, Lacmacun, Sourdough Doughnuts, Pitta Bread, Naan, Roti, Granary, Brioche, Simit, Bagels, Soda bread, Cheese Scones, Baguettes, Cream Buns the list is almost endless!

Here are some photos from the event:

This event is part of the Stoke Village Summer of Fun, and is supported by the Growing The Village Hub project (in partnership with Take A Part, and co-funded using money from the National Lottery by Arts Council England, Heritage Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund).
