Ceramic Signs For Blockhouse Park

Come and help us design & make ceramic signs for Blockhouse Park! We’re working with local residents & artists “In The Making” (Maia & Tressa) to design and make a new set of ceramic signs for Blockhouse Park. In The Making have been working with our community members to research and identify which plants grow in the Blockhouse and now we’re making some special signs together to share what we’ve learned.

In a two part workshop, Tressa & Maia showed us the whole process – from making impressions of plants from Blockhouse Park in clay, to glazing the signs so that they will be weather proof and last in the outdoors (when they get installed as permanent artworks later in the year).

Here are some photos from the workshops & sessions they ran:

This project is part of the Green Minds ‘Saplings’ Creative Commissions, where students from Arts University Plymouth were guided through a mentoring process by The Village Hub, and enabled to pitch to the local community for their proposed community art projects.

Additional funding and staff time was also drawn in through the Growing The Village Hub project (in partnership with Take A Part, and co-funded using money from the National Lottery by Arts Council England, Heritage Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund).
