Friends Of Blockhouse Group

Friends of Blockhouse Park are a group of local volunteers who are passionate about our shared green space, working in partnership with The Village Hub & Plymouth City Council.

What do Friends of Blockhouse Park do?

Friends of Blockhouse Park get involved in a range of activities that help to care for Blockhouse Park. These include regular practical activities like gardening, planting, maintenance, litter picking, construction (of things like community planters, composting and water capture) and conservation activities.

They also link in to campaigns surrounding parks and greenspace, and support community events that help us all make the most of the park.

If you’d like to get involved with Friends Of Blockhouse Park, look out for our regular “Love Your Park” activities – advertised on our social media and via the Village Hub’s email newsletter.

Why are Friends groups important?

Volunteering in Blockhouse Park is a great way to meet other local people, take action to preserve our shared green space and enjoy some time outdoors!

Friends groups like the Friends of Blockhouse Park are also an important way of promoting your local green space and providing feedback to Plymouth City Council. The Friends of Blockhouse Park group are also involved in:

  • Fundraising, accessing grants and lottery monies for the benefit of the park
  • Carrying out user surveys and collecting local views about the park
  • Designing information and educational leaflets about the park (such as a guide to trees/plants in the park or a local history of the park) in partnership with the Council
  • Contributing to the production of parks management plans and helping shape the future improvements to the area
