2022 Bloom was our first seed in the soil, and what a success it was! Stoke you really showed us the growing power of our community and we even got and outstanding from the RHS in Bloom for what everyone’s hard work. That is just amazing.
We really feel gardening speaks all languages and crosses all bridges and barriers, that’s why with bloom it’s about you, your friends and all the different growing styles you have. Be it petunias in a row or wild grasses on a rooftop we want to hear your stories.
This year we have 9 new categories which we hope open the access further to everyone in our ward. These are:
Lift A Slab, supported by BRIC. We recognise that our friends in St Levan suffer with flood waters. This inspired us to create an award for those lifting concrete, tarmac and hard standing areas with a wish to put it back to nature.
Express yourself, our community is a mixing pot of fabulosity and in this we really want to see the amazing approach of growing, that show the identities of people and place.
The Eurovision Award, are you a resident of a Plymouth ward? Then you can enter this award of friendship. If Australia can be in Eurovision, then why can’t others enter this part of bloom?!
The North Face of the Eiger, not all growing spaces are south facing with perfect soil and some of the best gardens are those that are in the gaps of convention; do you have a shady garden, and north facing, a rooftop, pots… basically anything that isn’t the notion of the perfect south facing garden then we want to hear from you. Let’s show people what they can do with every space.
The Pollinize Award, we are in a biodiversity crisis and Pollinize CIC are a home-grown talent of pollinator saving people. Pollinize have changed so many aspects of our city for the better in how we can support insects. For this reason, we wanted to support them, and you, by creating this award. How have you made your garden an abode for biodiversity?
The Home Grower, many of you are digging for victory, in saving our planet and proving good food for your families. This is inspiring! Do you have the biggest toms or the longest cucumbers or simply are your beets better than your neighbours?! How are you growing fab produce in Stoke?
Young Gardener, sorry all under 35’s only! Young people are in crucial to great growing into the future – We want to see all our budding horticulturists! How has grandma’s growing advice produced a generation of plants people?
The Business Award, it’s not just about our home’s – businesses can get involved to! Are you a restaurant that wants to have a Bloom themed menu? A shop who wants to have a floral window? Time to get involved and make the centre of Stoke Billage a Bloom tactic place to be!
Community Growing Award, finally one of our favs! Are you a school with a community garden, a group of neighbours growing along together, or simple a rebel grower? Stoke we want to know!
As you can tell we really are sowing for victory this year…
We are a ward of floral grower, veg enthusiasts, and eco warriors. This should be celebrated, cheered, and awarded!
