Subject: The Stoke Traders and Residents (STAR) Association

On 26 June 2023 and email was send by Judith Hosking to inform STARS members about an important meeting arranged for 3 July 2023 to discuss the future of this voluntary group. Pre-covid, we were extremely active, holding regular public meetings with our Councillors and Neighbourhood Police Team present and the email listed some of our achievements. The scheme had been dormant following the Covid-19 restrictions and we were looking for help to ensure we could continue. Sadly, no-one came forward.

As STARs has not met or had any activity since 2021, we would like to propose that we formally close the organisation and the bank account. We propose that the balance in the account of £3,385 be used in the following ways:
to fund a memorial for the people who were killed in the air raid shelter in Blockhouse Park, as has long been requested by Steve Kelly
any remaining balance to be used for subsequent Stoke Fun Days
We propose that the money be moved to The Village Hub account and restricted for these purposes.

Please let us know if this seems acceptable to you, or if you have any objections or counter proposals. We would like to resolve this soon rather than have the money left in an unused bank account and so ask you to let us have your thoughts by 30 June 2025.

The format of the public meetings continue in that these are now facilitated by The Village Hub. The next one is on 30 July 2025, from 10am to 12noon, at Stoke Youth and Community Centre. Anyone can attend the “Safer Stoke” meetings; the Stoke Ward Councillors and Officers of Neighbourhood Police Team are also regular attendees.

You can be added to The Village Hub mailing list by contacting Diane Flynn at diane@thevillagehub.org.uk.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please do let us have your thoughts by replying to this email by the deadline date.

.
Signed
Karen, Eilis, Teresa and Judith
