Check out Blockhouse Park’s new ceramic signs!

In June of 2022 The Village Hub began working with local residents & artists In The Making (Maia & Tressa) to design and make a new set of plant identification signs for the park.

In The Making have been working with our community members to research and identify which plants grow in the Blockhouse and to gather stories about local residents’ experiences in the park.

In a two part workshop during the summer of 2022, Tressa & Maia showed us the whole making process – from making impressions of plants in clay, to glazing the signs so that they will be weather proof and last outdoors.

The signs were installed January 2023, where they were enjoyed by many users of the park. Sadly these beautiful signs suffered a number of vandalism attacks and were finally removed later that year.

To help a process of community-repair, Tressa & Maia again worked with local people to transform the broken ceramic into a new mosaic for The Village Square garden.
